About

{Another biography, what do I say?  Do I go to my old well and copy the old, or just wing it in the moment?  At present my journey in life keeps me busy on many fronts, while I work and refine my online and social media presence.

Living in Chilliwack BC, with my teenage son Michael I am a full time single father currently employed as a poultry farmer.  Worked 17 years as a mechanical design engineer, obtained professional status in 1997, and continued in that field until 2008.

At present I blog about energy in it’s various forms as it is provided and consumed by society.  I seek innovation and novelty.  Elegance and simplicity.  By identifying problems we can formulate solutions.

My current hobbies include photography, energy blogging, philosophy, social media, computer technology, and music.

Additional connections:

A lot has occurred since I wrote this introduction to my blog.  Then I was getting started on this topic.

I am no longer living in Chilliwack, and have moved several times since both within Alberta, and in British Columbia.  I lived in Red Deer, Banff and Calgary in Alberta, as well as in Burnaby and Chilliwack.  The position on the poultry farm ended in 2013 after 3 years of employment.  I departed on good terms with my employer.

Most recently I lived and worked in Calgary AB mostly on a MURB construction site, returning again to Burnaby BC this year.  Working outside in the cold weather, the slowdown of work due largely to drop in oil demand contributed to the latest move back to BC.  Also, most of my friends and family are located in the lower mainland.

During the summer of 2014 I lived and worked in Banff, and last winter into the spring I was here in Burnaby working and attending BCIT where I enrolled in an AutoCAD refresher course.  My son is now 18 and completing high school still resides in Chilliwack, BC.  where his mother and sister also reside.

I am currently registered with APEGBC as a Professional Engineer, reinstating with the association last year, claiming 71.5 PD hours related to work, research and education related to the engineering profession and advancement of knowledge.

In the future I hope to start authoring my own content and to gain expertise in the topics I report and write on, going into the future as energy systems advance, change and evolve.  These are exciting times as new technologies are being rapidly deployed and new ways of doing things to gain large efficiencies are becoming common.

Into 2016 and beyond, may the future be bright and sustainable.

Addendum #1 (March 15 2017)

Since I began this blog there have been a lot of developments in my professional and personal life, as well as the world at large.  I began to write for a variety of reasons, among them being self paced learning, writing practice, professional development and research as well as a method of public education on the topics blogged.

This year I have been slow to blog and am considering how I can continue this practice in a way to promote my interests that incorporate my growth.  I will continue to blog perhaps more in a personal style, as well as the usual reblogs, reviews and articles.  I hope that you enjoy reading my blog, and feel free to like, comment or reblog.

  2. If you farm long enough, you will learn everything you need to know about life! Both of my grandparents were farmers and I learned a lot from them. I like using solar energy to supplement the heat in my home. I also use energy efficient curtains to block out the sun during the warm months. Thank for following my blog.
